Controversial Instagram Haircut: Bob With Extensions

In a world where it seems like everyone is a fan of beach waves, winged eyeliner, and plump lips, it can sometimes be easy to forget that beauty is subjective. At the end of the day, though, people's opinions can vary in terms of what they consider cool, pretty, or a trend worth trying — and these opinions sometimes cause drama on social media. Need a noteworthy example? Just look to the "boy beat" makeup trend that polarised Instagram just a couple months ago, or the countless eclectic and weird beauty looks that have gone viral this year.
The latest beauty look sparking controversy is a hairstyle; specifically, a bob with a baby fringe and what appears to be tape-in hair extensions underneath. The look comes courtesy of salon owner and Wella Global Ambassador, Darren Ambrose. The U.K.-based stylist first posted a photo of the look to his personal Instagram page a couple months back, but it recently resurfaced on the popular hair account, @hairbrained_official, this time amassing several comments from people questioning the style.
"Too Much for Most: the Weird and Wonderful," reads the caption, which clearly implies that the style isn't for everyone. The comment section proves this further, with messages of confusion, outright disgust, and awe.
"All I wanna know is who is gods name would do this on purpose...," wrote one user. "Just why?!?! Why would anyone wear their hair that way?!" added another. Some even compared the style, which showcases thinner strands coming out from under a blunt bob, to a jellyfish.
On the other hand, some were fans of the style and left messages of praise, like: "Love the cut and color! So beautiful 😍," Awesome 👏," and "So lovely and so well executed @darrenambrose."
Needless to say, this is just another example of how far opinions can range when it comes to beauty and the ways it's expressed. Thanks to social media, these various opinions tend to rain in at an ever-rapid rate. Have thoughts of your own on this one? Feel free to Tweet us.
