Shrek Director Andrew Adamson Boards Curious George Live-Action Movie

“Shrek” director Andrew Adamson has come on board to helm Universal’s live-action adaptation of the classic children’s tale “Curious George,” sources confirmed to Variety.

The children’s book series by Margret and H.A. Rey chronicled the exploits of George and his owner, “the Man With the Yellow Hat.” The series was published by Houghton Mifflin in 1941 and has since sold more than 75 million copies worldwide.

Brian Grazer and Ron Howard will produce through their Imagine Entertainment banner, alongside David Kirschner and Jon Shapiro. Imagine’s Erica Huggins will also produce. Senior production VP Kristin Lowe will oversee the project for Universal.

This marks the second time Imagine and Universal have teamed up on a “Curious George” project, having previously worked together on the 2006 animated movie with Will Ferrell voicing “the Man With the Yellow Hat.” In addition to the animated film, it was also turned into an Emmy-Award winning PBS show.

Aside from the “Shrek” franchise, Adamson is also known for his work on “The Chronicles of Narnia” series, helming the first installment, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.” He is repped by UTA and Nelson Davis, LLP.
