Four Bailed After Southampton Stabbing

Four people who were arrested after a man was stabbed in the Millbrook area of Southampton have been released on bail.

Police were called by ambulance staff after a man in his 20s arrived at Southampton General Hospital just before midnight on Wednesday, May the 12 with a single, life threatening stab wound to his neck.

He underwent emergency surgery and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital this morning.

Police are still trying to find out exactly when and where it happened, but believe the man was probably stabbed in Pennine Road.

Two local men aged 30, another local man aged 24 and a 29-year-old local woman were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and have now been bailed pending further enquiries.

A dedicated team of officers are working on this enquiry based at Shirley police station and additional policing patrols are being carried out in the area to reassure the public and gather information.

Det Insp Gary Towse based at Shirley CID, said:

“This isn’t a random attack we believe it was a targeted stabbing. The offender may not have intended to cause such serious harm, but we would urge that person to come forward.

“We are still unclear about the circumstances of the incident and exactly who was involved so I am appealing directly to residents in Millbrook, particularly in and around Pennine Road.

“If you saw or heard anything or have any information that could assist us in progressing this investigation your help is extremely important. You can speak to us in confidence and you may have the missing piece of the jigsaw that helps us solve this case.”

House to house enquiries were carried out in the area yesterday and more enquiries will be conducted today. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Shirley CID on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers charity number, on 0800 555 111.
