The Only Way Is Essex, aka. TOWIE is the show about the wonderful world of Essex. It's known for its catchphrases; from Amy Childs' 'shut up,' to Joey Essex' 'reem' and who can forget the rule of 'no carbs before Marbs'?
But the cast of TOWIE might not be able to use their catchy sayings to sell stuff (perfume, hoodies, tacky stuff) emblazoned with their catchphrases for much longer.
Well, they could - but they won't see all the cash! Now, thanks to the TOWIE bosses, the makers of the ITV2 show will be taking a cut of the profits.
Lime Pictures are acquiring the full rights to the script - and when we say script, we obviously mean their completely natural conversation. So if you have a catchy signature saying, it's not yours - it belongs to Lime pictures.
A source told The Mirror: "The cast of TOWIE are a canny bunch, and they know that when they coin a marketable catchphrase that they can really make some money out of it.
"Joey created a shop from his range, and sells T-shirts, fragrances and hair products named after phrases he coined on the show.
"The producers already take 15% of the cast's earnings, but this would mean even their company's earnings would be eligible - even after they leave the show.
"Lime have always registered key words and phrases, but it can be expensive and they have to be sure they'll use them and profit from them.
"Looking forward, this means that a lot more of the individual character phrases will be bought up and protected.
"Since the odder words, like Joey's 'reem', took off in popularity, a lot of the cast seem to have been using more of their own distinctive new words.
"The potential income could be considerably less lucrative from now on."
